Lily's Quotables - All in One Day!

I usually don't have the time to record all the cute things these precious children say, so I try to just chuckle and enjoy them myself in the moment.  But Lily came out with so many hilarious things today I thought it was worth sitting down and sharing. All three girls chatter up a storm (Clara's chatter is incessant. Say that five times fast... ;-)), so it's hard to even remember them all. But here's a sampling of how Lily's mind (and mouth) are currently operating:

At the mall around 2pm, after we spent a couple of hours finding her some new sneakers and looking (in vain) for some shorts for me, we are start walking towards the opposite end of the ENORMOUS mall to go back to the car and she says,

   "Whew! I need some STEAM!"
     Me: " What? Steam?"
"Yeah, Mom! Steam! To fill me up!"
     "What? Steam?...... OH! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH"
"Mom! Why are you laughing?! Mom! Why are you laughing?!"

It finally dawned on me that she wanted a treat. She's lately spent a lot of time with my mother (Ritter), who frequently says when tired or hungry that she is "out of steam". Lily needed steam, preferably in the form of ice cream, candy, coke, or hot chocolate, or a Starbucks latte if she's really lucky. :) LOL.

"Mom! What do you think of when you see this mug? Do you think of ME because I got it for you in  Disneyland?!!" (By the way, she followed this cuteness with making a fresh pot of coffee, pouring my coffee and putting the correct amount of cream ("I'm just getting it to the right color, Mom.") in it, before requesting that I get up off the couch to come get the steaming mug of happiness. :))

After dinner tonight, Lily comes up to me at the computer (avoiding watching Arch swing the girls up in the air like a kettle-bell), and whispers,

"Mom! I found a shirt of Daddy's that has a hole in it but he said not to show you because he doesn't   want you to throw it away! Let's go find it and cut it up for tissues!"

She has apparently grasped onto this ongoing good-natured tug-of-war between her parents re: the wearability of tattered clothing. And she's on my side. So we tiptoe back to the bedroom (Daddy is occupied throwing toddlers around in the air), dig through the mountain of clean laundry on our bed, discover the offending t-shirt, and she marches it out to the kitchen trash-can, saying,

"Look, Daddy! Your shirt is going in the trash!!"

Her Dad says, "NoOOOOO!!!!!" As she giggles and tosses it in. :) There's a 50% chance he'll dig it out, so I'd better bag it up or throw some dirty coffee grinds in the trash can....

There were several other things that made me chuckle today, but it's time to listen to my flower-child read some Fancy Nancy.

"Mom! I'm like you because I love lilies and you love ME!"
"You're right, Lily, YOU are my favorite kind of lily."
